Bike tour in Loire Valley from Blois to Tours
We propose here a “relax” bike tour in Loire Valley between Blois and Tours, two emblematic towns along the Loire Valley. On the program: Two peaceful days of cycling on the gentle banks of the river linking Blois to Amboise then Tours, on pleasant greenways and cycle paths. But also “à la carte” escape days to discover the prestigious Loire Castles such as Chambord, Chenonceau or Villandry. You are free to decide whether to cycle every day or to take advantage of more peaceful days to discover the town centers, their shops or their historical richenesses.
This itinerary in the Loire Valley will make you discover a wild river and will take you to meet the famous Loire châteaux scattered all around. You will also discover the vineyards of the Loire Valley, such as Montlouis. Beautiful daily bike rides between exceptional historical heritage, wine heritage and enchanting natural landscapes. The Loire Valley also received the appellation of “Garden of France” in the 15th century, justified at the time by the art and the sweetness of life of this region and which will promote then for a long time the development of the art of gardens omnipresent in the parks of the sumptuous castles.
Cycling holidays on the central section of the famous “Loire à Velo”, the oldest cycling route in France, 800 km long. The stages are not too long. So take the time to visit a few castles without forgetting the parks and gardens. As an option in our offer, the “Châteaux Pack” will open the doors to these cultural treasures throughout the journey.
Day 1: Arrival in Blois
Discover the charming town of Blois, as you stroll along its paved streets punctuated with staircases, and the château, a perfect illustration of how French architecture evolved between the Middle Ages and the 17th century.
Day 2: Excursion to Chambord 40 km or to Cheverny 49 km
Chambord : For your first bike excursion, follow the Loire river banks to the Domaine de Chambord forest, where a stop is essential to visit the most famous and majestic château of the Loire Valley. In its Renaissance splendour, the Château de Chambord boasts no less than 440 rooms. You can also explore its 5433-hectare (13425-acre) park, before setting off again along the country paths towards Blois.
Cheverny : Your itinerary takes you through fields and vineyards, and a number of villages, via the Château de Troussay, a charming Renaissance manor, and the Château de Cheverny, remarkable for its sumptuously furnished and decorated apartments, which inspired Hergé's vision of Marlinspike in the adventures of Tintin! Do not miss to stop for a wine tasting in a local producer along your route: you are in the Cheverny appellation!
Day 3: Blois – Amboise. 39 km
Follow the 'pays des châteaux' cycling tracks through nice tiny villages to the château of Chaumont-sur-Loire, which majestically dominates the Loire river and the little town, before reaching the city of Amboise and its royal château. The castle's chapel shelters Leonardo Da Vinci's tomb, and a few streets further on, you can see the last residence of this genius : the Clos Lucé Manor house.
Day 4: Excursion to Chenonceaux. 38 km + option 8 km
Once you have crossed the forest of Amboise, you will arrive at the famous Château de Chenonceau, straddling the Cher river, which was the scene of a famous rivalry in French history: that of Diane de Poitiers and Catherine de Medici.
Day 5: Amboise – Tours. 24 km or 32 km
Crossing the vineyards of Montlouis discover the numerous cellars producing the region’s famous sweet white and sparkling wines. Then you will reach the city of Tours to discover the old neighbourhood with its typical half-timbered houses.
Day 6 (Optional) : Excursion to Villandry. 39 km
Follow the ‘Loire à vélo’ cycling path and reach Villandry and its famous ‘French style’ Renaissance gardens. Enjoy the ‘Ornamental kitchen Garden’, the ‘Garden of Love’, the ‘Water Garden’ and the ‘Sun Garden’. Come back to Tours following the peaceful countryside routes.
