Bordeaux wines cycle tour is a self-guided tour across the prestigious Bordeaux wine region in Aquitaine, the best of french wine. Cycle through this impressive wine area of France and follow the Great Wine Road, where the most famous chateaux are located.

The Bordeaux wines cycle tour starts on the left bank in the vineyard of Pauillac who provide a beautiful back-drop  to an area of exceptional vines beauty. You’ll see most important châteaux as Château Mouton-Rothschild or Château Latour ( 1 Grand Cru classés in 1855) who attract tourists from all over the world. you’ll go through the Haut-Médoc and Margaux appelations where you could see Château Margaux ( first grothw also) before taking the ferry to cross the Gironde estuary to Blaye. The Bordeaux wines cycle tour continue  along the Corniche Fleurie.

Biking alongside the river between Bourg and Blaye, this little road, once known as “route des Capitaines” is a real delight with its countless palm trees, pink laurels and oaks and vines. Don’t miss the Citadel of Blaye, built by Vauban. Discover the sunny slopes of the beautiful hills of the Entre-Deux-Mers, a succession of vineyards and prestigious monuments. From Bourg you’ll cycle through Saint-Émilion who is one of the most prestigious wine areas in the world. With more than 800 wine producers, an endless landscape of vineyards, and its vicinity to Bordeaux. It became one of the top destinations in the southwest of France. More than a million visitors arrive each year to explore the nine communes of the Saint-Émilion region. With so much excellent wine and beautiful châteaux, choosing which wineries to visit in Saint-Émilion can be a pleasure.

Stay in the heart of UNESCO World Heritage Sites, such as Bordeaux and Saint-Emilion. After each day’s cycle you will be welcomed in the best hotels and charming guesthouses of the area. .To be more confortable during your cycling tours, we can Bike hire or an E-bike as you prefer!

 

Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in France and transfer to Bordeaux in the Medoc

Arrive at the train station or at Bordeaux Airport. A taxi takes you to your 3-star hotel in Pian Medoc where you will find the road book and bikes waiting for you.
Dinner at the hotel. Breakfast included.

Day 2: Cycle through the heart of the “Medoc rouge” to Macau - 35 km

Today’s cycle to Macau takes you on the “Road of the Chateaux” along the Gironde toward Margaux, Saint-Estephe and Moulis, where  red wines , and spirit houses await you. Every village, every chateau is a dream for everyone in this well known area! The route of chateaux is certainly one of the most beautiful road! Start your holiday cycling across Margaux vineyards, Haut Medoc, Moulis-en-Medoc and past renowned chateaux. Take the time to stop in  little ports alongside the backroads, including St Julien (the famous appellation). Head toward the estuary and encounter pleasant and diverse landscapes. This stage leads to the heart of the “Medoc rouge” as far as Moulis-en-Medoc. you can book for a wine guided tour in a château. you'll learn everything about Bordeaux wines, including winemaking, appellations, tannins, grape varieties like Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, or Malbec… And also tasting of course!

Overnight in a charming guesthouse. Breakfast and dinner included.

Day 3: Cycling on the other side of the estuary to Blaye - 43 or 53 Km

Cycle to Lamarque where you catch the ferry across the Gironde Estuary to Blaye.

Imposing and majestic, the citadel at Blaye has a commanding view over the river. Continue along the banks of the Gironde Estuary and go through the vineyards of the Cotes de Blaye famous for white wines especially  the taste of the Sauvignon Blanc, AOC Bordeaux and Bordeaux Supérieur. Follow the little road called the "Corniche Fleurie",with its countless palm trees, pink laurels and oaks as far as “Bourg-sur-Gironde”. This attractive small town is an architectural jewel. Clinging to a rock, surrounded by walls, the village is one of the most beautiful and best preserved of the Estuary.

Overnight in a beautiful house. Dinner and breakfast included.

Day 4: Biking through the vineyards of Fronsac, Pomerol and Saint-Emilion - 40 Km

Cycle through the renowned vineyards of Fronsac, Pomerol and St.Emilion.
Pomerol Vineyards cover a small area to the North of Libourne, next to Saint-Emilion, where is produced a famous grape: “The Merlot”, included the renowned “Petrus” wine and famous winemakers.
Don’t miss tastings of it with a winemaker! (most favourite wine in France). Going through Fronsac discover the oldest part of the Bordeaux Vineyards. The favorite wine of King Louis XIV!
Explore the beautiful landscapes, hillsides and plateau all covered with vineyards. In the midst of the vineyards are beautiful manor houses – the domains of the owners.
Overnight in a 3-star hotel in St.Emilion. Breakfast and dinner included.

Day 5 (optionnal) : Biking in Saint-Emilion Vineyards, Unesco Heritage - 20 or 35 km

Circuit between stones and wine. This backroad  within the jurisdiction of Saint-Emilion will make you travel around the eastern part of the court of St-Emilion vineyards and villages...

The program, estates, old stones and remarkable sceneries. You can reach Castillon la Bataille La Bataille and return by the bank of the Dordogne River.

You will stay in the same hotel as the night before.

Enjoy diner in the many restaurants located next to your hotel.

Day 5 (or 6): Cycling day from Saint-Emilion to Bordeaux - 50 km

After crossing the Dordogne at Branne continue all the way into Bordeaux on a cycle path called "Roger Lapébie”, a pleasant track to cycle at your own pace through beautiful landscapes. Many stops and water points are located on the path. Discover the many villages, country houses, fortified mills, abbeys, Roman churches that will delight your day! Don’t miss a stop in Creon, a typical bastide village in the region. End your biking tour in central Bordeaux close to your final hotel and enjoy the 18th century monuments: The Place de la Bourse, The stone bridge, the Quays… Now you know famous wine regions of Bordeaux! Be proud!
Overnight in a 3-Star hotel in Bordeaux, next to the largest place of Europe and next to the Gran Theatre. Breakfast included.

Day 6 (or 7): End of your cycling holiday

After breakfast transfer to Bordeaux train station or to the airport. Or you can stay in Bordeaux, world heritage site since 2007 for one or two extra nights to visit the Graves area with Sauternes And Pessac Léognan ( you must visit Château Haut-Brion) appellations.
