Tour description

Short bike tour in Lot et Garonne!

4 days to discover the Lot et Garonne by bike. In this rural department crossed by the “Lot” river and the “Garonne” river, the landscapes are very strongly marked by agricultural activity. We are immediately struck by the variety of landscapes that make up the mosaic of cultures: field crops, market gardening, orchards, vineyards and meadows combine to create remarkable and very diverse landscapes.

Your bike tour in Lot et Garonne will start in Agen, made famous by its “Canal Bridge” (one of the longest in France) and its prunes. You will cycle on small roads across  green landscapes to the pretty village of Pennes d’Agenais overlooking the Lot river then Villeneuve sur Lot (old fortified village). You will then rdie along the Lot Valley in a most peaceful atmosphere to Puy-l’Evêque, one of the most beautiful villages in France. Perched above the Lot, this medieval city is made up of a maze of alleys and staircases bordered by beautiful gilded stone houses that descend to the hold where formerly the barges bound for Bordeaux. Do not miss a visit to the imposing Château de Bonaguil, one of the most beautiful fortified castles in France. From the top of its rocky outcrop, it forms a place, unique in Europe, with huge proportions and a remarkable state of conservation.

You will cross the vineyards of Cahors before spending the night just below the medieval illage of Tournon d´Agenais (accessible by a vertiginous staircase!). The end of this cycling trip in Lot et Garonne will follow a gentle slope along the charming Séoune valley and its typical bastides such as Beauville and Puymirol. At the end, the Canal de Garonne will take you back to your starting point, Agen.

Land of excellent local products and gastronomy, Lot et Garonne will awaken your taste buds with truffles, foie gras, lamb or melon from Quercy … and Cahors Malbec wine. You will be warmly welcomed every evening in 2 or 3 star hotels.
